SAFEGUARDING

SAFEGUARDING IN OUR PARISH

  • SAFEGUARDING is EVERYBODY’S responsibility; it is not for the Parish Safeguarding Representatives or any individual to investigate or decide whether or not abuse has taken place.

  • If you are concerned about the welfare of a child or adult talk to our Parish Safeguarding Representative, Tony Hedges on 07811 825460. If you wish to talk to a female that is also available. Alternatively, you can contact Liam Sainsbury the Diocesan Safeguarding Coordinator on 07931 952626 or email safeguarding.coordinator@rcdea.org.uk.

  • Please note, if anyone is in immediate danger do not delay in contacting the police by calling 999.

Adults involved with children, young people, or adults at risk

  • If you are involved in any way with a church activity that includes children, young people, or adults at risk, you probably need a free DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. DBS is a government-run body that carries out criminal record checks to help make safer recruitment decisions. Please contact Tony Hedges for more details or with any questions/concerns.

  • DBS checks should be renewed every three years, if your check was more than 3 years ago contact Tony (on 07811 825460). There is a free update service which has to be signed up to as soon as you receive your DBS certificate.

  • There is a Catholic Church Online Safeguarding training. This is a bespoke Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency (CSSA) training package created for volunteers and staff working in the Catholic Church in England and Wales. Volunteers and staff in the Diocese of East Anglia who work in a role which requires a DBS Disclosure should complete Module Level 3: Safeguarding training for Volunteers in the Catholic Church.

  • The Diocese expects that all volunteers working with children and/or adults will complete the module for Level 3. People can sign up for themselves. When they have completed the training, they are awarded a certificate which is recorded by the Diocese for audit purposes.

  • To access this online training, please go to: https://training.catholicsafeguarding.org.uk
